Glen Allen is located north of the city of Richmond. As Richmond has expanded, Glen Allen has become a suburb of Richmond. A large area of northern and western Henrico County, from the Goochland County line north of Broad Street to the neighborhoods surrounding the Virginia Center Commons mall off U.S. Route 1, and has its own postal address (ZIP codes 23059 and 23060). However, the actual Glen Allen CDP is a much smaller area, near the intersection of Woodman Road and Mountain Road. Pint-sized Glen Allen couldn’t hide in the shadows of Richmond if it tried, with world-class facilities such as The Glen Allen Stadium (which opened last April and is slated to host this summer’s Babe Ruth League World Series) and The Dominion Club (where Virginia’s only PGA Tour-sanctioned event is played). Glen Allen also scores major points in economic growth: The 25-year-old Innsbrook office park spans across over 850 acres, and is home to several Fortune 1000 companies. New developments are exponentially increasing, but locals still hold very dear such historical landmarks as the Walkerton Tavern and the Cultural Arts Center, both of which are prime venues for special events and community programs. -I.T.
